Andy Sheppard Trio

Venue: Factory Theatre

Date: Sunday, March 24

Time: 4:00 PM

Andy Sheppard - Tenor and Soprano Saxophones

Rita Marcotulli - Piano
 Michel Benita - Double Bass

Andy Sheppard Trio marks an unprecedented encounter between the masterful saxophonist Andy Sheppard, the Italian jazz icon pianist Rita Marcotulli and one of the most prominent bassists in the European circuit, the French bassist Michel Benita. Three highly individual musicians, all of which had a big role in shaping what we call the sound of European jazz today.

In this new trio, Sheppard has the opportunity to develop an entire programme of new compositions, taking a spirited fresh approach to his writting for this project, honouring jazz in its tradition but allowing free space for interpretation by the elements of the trio. Collectively exploring the possibilities of improvisation and interplay, the music is anchored in structure but open to lyricism, free to choose new paths and take on different directions in the making.

“Simply exquisite” London Jazz News

“An exceptional display of contemporary jazz“ T. Benjamin B24/7

“Together they created a cinematic sound that was simply beautiful.” Jazzwise

“The trio of Andy Sheppard designs the new itinerary of European Jazz.” IL Gazzettino

“Gorgeous themes with superb structure and passionately-delivered” London Jazz News
